Medigap Plan F has the broadest coverage out all off the available Medicare Supplement Plan types. But Not everyone can get it or afford it.
Plan F provides 100% coverage for most things except for the foreign travel emergency benefit:
Part A Hospital deductible
Part B Medical Expense deductible
Part B excess charges
Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare’s benefits are all used up
Part B coinsurance or copayments
First three pints of blood used in an approved medical procedure
Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
80% of a foreign travel emergency (up to plan limits)
After the release of Plan F, it was among the most popular Medigap Plan types due to it's broad coverage. However, it also had high premiums.
Medicare Plan F is no longer available to people who became eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020. However, anyone who was enrolled in a Plan F Medigap Plan are allowed to stay enrolled as long as they choose.
However, due to the shrinking number of people enrolled in Plan F, premiums are increasing for the plan type. People enrolled in Plan F may be able to lower their premiums with a different plan, like Plan G or Plan N and keep similar coverage.
